Hot Tapping
Hot Tapping is a method use to safely tie in a new connection to the existing pressurized system while the system is still in operation.
Performing Hot Tapping
- Weld in a mechanical Tapping spool saddle to the existing system
- Fix up a flange or threated full ported valves know as gate valve or ball valve
- Pressure test the connected joint and the valves connected to the system.
- Mount in the hot tap machine, here the hole saw will get through the open valve to the pipe and cutting begins
- When the cut is complete, retracted the hole saw beyond the gate or ball of the valve, valve is then close and Tapping machine is unmounts
- The pilot drill will retained the cut coupon with a catching wire attach in front of the pilot drill to prevent the coupon to fall off.
Advantages of Hot Tapping
- No Disruptions on Major Systems
- Eliminates Down Time
